If you are interested in breeding a top sports horse for yourself then here is a great opportunity at a very reasonable price.
An ideal mare to cross with our stallion would be the 1/2 Clydesdale type mare that you would like to breed with and maybe give a bit more athleticism. This would produce the perfect Cavalcade-type horse. Even crossing with a TB mare Pembroke Corsair is leaving 15 stone hacks (95kg - Heavy Hunter types)
The Irish Sport Horse is an active short-shinned powerful horse with substance and quality. Standing over a lot of ground, he is proud and bearing, deep of girth, strong of back, loin and quarters.
The unique base of the Thoroughbred and the Irish Draught produces the Irish Sport Horse/Irish Hunter, which is renowned for its natural ability, depth of bone and jumping prowess. This magical mixture combines the speed and style of the Thoroughbred with the durability, strength and athleticism of the Irish Draught Horse. The hardy sound constitution and placid temperament of the Irish Draught is transmitted to the Irish Sport Horse and the Thoroughbred contributes quality fineness to these characteristics. John Whitaker (Milton) has commented on his success with Irish Horses: "The Irish Horse can continue his work from where he finished off the previous day, unlike other breeds where you can start at page one of the manual every day he comes out".
This statement can easily be endorsed when we look at the Irish horses that have competed successfully in all disciplines at international level; Ryan's Son, Towerlands, Mister Softis, Flannagan, Stroller, Murphy Himself, Vivaldi, Mill Pearl, Boomerang, Milton, Glenburnie, Priceless and Wilton Fair. |
